CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The King University men's volleyball teamed dropped a pair of matches at Harvard University on Saturday afternoon. The Tornado dropped a 3-2 decision to regional rival Queens University to start the day, and fell to the host Crimson 3-0 Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED - QUEENS
First Set
- Queens got off to a hot start, taking a 5-1 lead before Chance Hoffman got the Tornado offense going.
- He recorded three kills and pitched in on a block on what was a 5-0 King run. Aaron Milstead and Suetonius Harris teamed up for one block while Hoffman and Milstead gave King a 6-5 lead with a stuff.
- King later used a 4-1 run to take a 15-10 lead following another Hoffman termination.
- The Tornado scored 8-of-10 points, taking a 23-13 before Sean Haberthy came up with a block to give King the opening set 25-16.
Second Set
- Queens again used an early run to open up an advantage, scoring four straight points to take an 8-3 lead.
- Three straight King points pulled the Tornado within 15-12 following a block from AJ Drooker and Haberthy.
- The Tornado later used a 4-0 spur to even the tally at 19 with back-to-back blocks, the first from Milstead and Jackson Carroll and the other from Milstead and Hoffman.
- However, Queens scored back-to-back points and six of the final nine points to take the set 25-22.
Third Set
- King had the advantage early at 4-1, but the Royals came back and evened the tally at five.
- Warren Davis, Milstead and Carroll all had kills on a 4-0 run that gave king an 11-7 lead. Drooker and Milstead also teamed up for a block on the spurt.
- Queens came back and evened the set at 18, but King later scored three straight points to take a 22-19 lead. Hoffman had a kill on the run and he teamed up with on a block.
- Hoffman later gave King the 25-22 win with another kill.
Fourth Set
- A Davis ace gave King a 4-1 lead, and capped a 4-0 Tornado spurt.
- King held the lead until a 7-1 Queens run vaulted the Royals into the lead.
- Queens later went on a 5-1 run that extended the lead and held off a King run to take the set 25-20.
Fifth Set
- Queens started out hot, taking a 5-1 advantage and later led 10-5.
- The Tornado tried to work their way back as a Harris block pulled King within 12-10.
- However, the Royals scored the final three points to take the set 15-10 and the match 3-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hoffman led the Tornado with a career-high 23 kills to go along with five blocks and three digs.
- Hoffman only made five errors on 40 attempts for a .450 attack percentage.
- Davis added a career-high 10 kills and six digs.
- Milstead posted seven blocks and Ryan Sumarsono paced the back row with 11 digs.
- Drooker handed out a career-high 44 assists and added six digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Jack Pflunger led Queens with 24 kills and nine digs.
- Brandon Grabow followed with 10 kills and six digs.
- Ananias Hayes handed out 43 assists to go along with nine digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED - HARVARD
First Set
- Harvard set the tone early, scoring the first five points before kills from Diego Marcano and Harris.
- King chipped away at the deficit, pulling within 14-10 following a block from JT Deppe and Milstead and a kill from Harris.
- However, Harvard pulled away, taking the set 25-16.
Second Set
- Harvard again jumped ahead early, but King came back and pulled within 6-5.
- However, the Crimson went on an 9-2 run, extending their lead to 15-7.
- The Tornado started to chip away, pulling within 18-14 following a 7-3 spurt.
- Haberth and Marcano teamed up for a block and Sumarsono served up an ace on the run.
- That was as close as King would get the rest of the way as Harvard won the set 25-19.
Third Set
- Harvard again used an early run to gain the advantage, taking a 7-3 lead following four straight points.
- A block from Haberthy and Deppe evened the score at nine and capped a 6-2 King run. Marcano posed three kills on the spurt.
- However, a 5-1 Harvard run gave the Crimson a 14-10 lead.
- The Tornado deficit grew to 19-14 as King called for a timeout.
- Nevertheless, Harvard scored six of the final seven points to take the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Harris and Marcano led King with seven kills each.
- Deppe handed out 17 assists and added five digs.
- Noah Melendez matched Deppe's five digs that led the Tornado.
FOR THE FOES
- Campbell Schoenfeld led Harvard with 13 kills and Kade McGovern followed with nine kills and four digs.
- James Bardin handed out 30 assists.
UP NEXT
- King is in action again on Tuesday at Lincoln Memorial University. The nonconference match in Harrogate, Tenn., is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
- Queens hosts the University of Charleston on Friday night.
- Harvard is in action again on February 5 when they host Purdue Fort Wayne.
