King drops pair at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The King University baseball team dropped a pair of Conference Carolinas road contests on Friday afternoon at Emmanuel College. The Tornado fell in game 6-4 before dropping game two 5-3.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Backus started the game with a single and later scored on an Meyer single, giving King the 1-0 lead.
  • However, Emmanuel started the bottom half of the inning with a single and a pair of walks.
  • Hunter Reeves then ripped a home run, giving the Lions a 4-1 lead.
  • King had a pair of two-out baserunners in the third inning, but that was it as they were left stranded.
  • Junior Renwick came up with a single that scored Bennett McCann after he reached on an error to start the fifth inning.
  • Renwick later scored on a Rob Sari single, cutting the King deficit to 4-3.
  • Emmanuel added two runs in the fifth, extending their lead to 6-3.
  • In the sixth inning, Carnicella ripped a triple, and scored on a Backus groundout to cut the King deficit to 6-4.
  • King couldn't get anything going in the seventh as Adam Biss came in and retired the Tornado in order to give Emmanuel the 6-4 victory.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Emmanuel took the lead on a Justin Henley two-out home run in the first inning.
  • The Lions extended their lead to 2-0 as Tony Matos scored on a groundout following a one-out triple.
  • Henle hit his second home run of the game in the fifth inning, extending the Emmanuel lead to 3-0.
  • Carnicella got the King offense going with a leadoff single in the sixth inning.
  • Backus followed with a double before a McCann single scored Carnicella and a groundout scored Backus.
  • Zachary Thomas started the seventh inning with a double and later scored on a Deric Graham groundout, evening the score at 3-3.
  • An infield single and an error put Emmanuel runners on the corners in the seventh.
  • A sacrifice fly scored one, and a Reeves single scored another to give Emmanuel a 5-3 lead.
  • Renwick reached on an error to start the ninth, but the Tornado couldn't get a rally going as the Lions took the contest 5-3.
