King scores late to top BAC

BELMONT, N.C. – The King University baseball team rebounded to take game three of their Conference Carolinas series at Belmont Abbey College. The Tornado scored three runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Crusaders 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.

KING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Austin Meyer and Wes Bonney led King with two hits each.
  • Meyer scored a run and drove in one.
  • King had five different players score runs and five different players drive in runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Consecutive one-out doubles from Bennett McCann and Junior Renwick got the Tornado on the board in the first inning.
  • Austin Meyer followed with single to score Renwick and give King a 2-0 lead.
  • Belmont Abbey cut the Tornado lead in half in the second inning on a groundout that scored Ben Ferguson who started the inning with a double.
  • That was all Drew Moore allowed until a fifth inning home run from Zach Aehlert that evened the score.
  • Meyer got the Tornado offense going again in the sixth inning with a one-out double.
  • He later scored on a David Carnicella single, regaining the lead for the Tornado.
  • A Deric Graham single plated another run before Harrison Barger dropped down a squeeze bunt that scored another run, giving King a 5-2 lead.
  • After a delay, Trevor Beards relieved Moore in the seventh inning. The Crusaders tried to make a two-out rally, but Beards got a strikeout to end the game and give King the 5-2 win.

  • Ferguson, Aehlert and Richard DeLaCruz all registered hits for the Crusaders.
  • Kyle Rhame and Aehlert drove in runs.
