Top-seeded Emmanuel too much for Tornado

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The King University men's basketball team stayed with the top seeded Emmanuel College in the early going of the Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinal on Tuesday evening. However, the eighth-seeded Tornado couldn't stay with the Lions, falling 93-68.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
  • The Tornado took an early 10-8 lead following a Darron Howard triple and Brandon Lamberth layup.
  • However, the Lions came back with nine straight points to open up a 17-10 lead.
  • Emmanuel followed that later with a 12-0 run, opening up a 29-17 advantage before a Damion Ottman basket with six minutes remaining in the half.
  • MJ Foust followed with a dunk before Emmanuel closed the half on another run.
  • The Lions scored seven straight points before a Howard triple.
  • Following that trifecta, Emmanuel scored eight of the final nine points in the half to take a 44-25 lead at the break.
Second Half
  • Emmanuel didn't slow down, scoring the first nine points of the second half to open up a 53-25 lead two minutes into the half.
  • The Tornado couldn't get their offense going against the top defense in Conference Carolinas as the Lions took the game 93-68.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Foust led the Tornado with 15 points, shooting 4-for-7 from the floor.
  • Ottman followed with 12 points and eight rebounds.
  • JaMarquis Johnson added 10 points.
  • Howard and Lamberth chipped in with nine points apiece.

  • Conference Carolinas Player of the Year KJ Jones led Emmanuel will 26 points and 13 rebounds.
