Tornado drop match at LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team took to the road in an attempt to avenge a defeat earlier in the season as they took on Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday afternoon. However, the Tornado fell to the Railsplitters 3-0.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lincoln Memorial 3, King 0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-19)

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • Lincoln Memorial used four straight points to take an early lead, but back-to-back kills from Aaron Milstead and Douglas Florencio evened the tally at five.
  • A 4-1 Railsplitter run gave Lincoln Memorial a 14-11, but the Tornado worked their way back.
  • Three straight Tornado points, the final on a block from Milstead and JT Deppe evened the score at 19.
  • However, Lincoln Memorial scored six of the next eight points to take the set 25-21.
Second Set
  • King jumped out to a 4-2 lead, only to see the Railsplitters come back to even the score at five.
  • A Diego Marcano kill, followed by blocks from Florencio and Jackson Carroll and Florencio and Marcano gave King a 13-10 lead.
  • Lincoln Memorial came back with three straight points to even the tally.
  • Four straight points gave Lincoln Memorial a 22-21 lead, but King later came back with a 4-1 spurt to take a 25-24 lead on a Joshua Kim kill.
  • However, the Railsplitters scored the final three points to take the set 27-25.
Third Set
  • A Kim service ace gave King a 4-1 lead in the early going, but Lincoln Memorial came back to even the score at six.
  • The Railsplitters used a 4-0 run in the middle of the set to take a 16-12 lead.
  • King couldn't come back after that point as Lincoln Memorial took the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Kim led King with 14 kills and eight digs.
  • Marcano posted nine kills.
  • Deppe handed out 29 assists and added four digs and three blocks.
  • Milstead and Florencio posted four blocks each.
  • Noah Melendez led the back row with 13 digs.
FOR THE FOES
  • Jacob Titus led Lincoln Memorial with 10 kills.
  • Pedro Carvalho, Dawson Walker and Justin Sharfenaker all posted eight kills.
  • AJ Risavy handed out 34 assists and added seven digs.
  • Logan Kerley accounted for 11 digs.
