Tornado down NGU on Senior Day

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team extended their winning streak to three games following a 71-53 victory over North Greenville University on Saturday afternoon. The Tornado celebrated Senior Day by knocking off the Crusaders for the second time this season and improving their chances at hosting a Conference Carolinas tournament game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
  • The Crusaders scored the first five points of the game before King used a 6-0 run to take an early advantage.
  • The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter as King held a 13-11 advantage after the first ten minutes of play.
Second Period
  • Trinity Lee scored the opening basket of the period as well as the third of the quarter to spark a run and give King a lead that they never surrendered.
  • Kiki Samsel and Ali Golden knocked down consecutive triples to give King their first double-digit advantage of the day at 25-14.
  • Over the first half of the second quarter, King went on a 20-5 run to grab a 17-point lead, their largest of the first half at 33-16.
Third Period
  • Ryleigh Fritz knocked down a triple to open the second half to put King up 43-25.
  • The Crusaders used a 6-0 to trim the lead to 14 points at 45-31 with 5:57 remaining.
  • Two consecutive baskets from Julie Ford helped spark an 11-2 run for the Tornado that put them up 56-33 with just under two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Fourth Period
  • A jumper from Jada Owens was the start of a 7-0 run for King that eventually put them up 71-45, their largest lead of the game.
  • North Greenville scored the final eight points of the game to trim the deficit to 18 points, ultimately falling 71-53.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Golden celebrated Senior Day with a team-high 17 points to accompany six rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Samsel added 12 points, connecting on four triples.
  • Lee posted a double-double as she posted 11 points and grabbed 10 boards.
  • Ford contributed 11 points as well as five rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
  • North Greenville was led by Savannah Hughes in scoring as she posted 17 points to go along with a pair of rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Journey Muhammad also posted double digits in the scoring column, tallying 12 points.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Lee's eleven and ten performance gave her a third double-double on the season.
UP NEXT
  • King concludes their regular season on Thursday evening when they travel to the University of Mount Olive. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
  • The Crusaders travels to Barton on Thursday to conclude their regular season as well.
