Murfreesboro, N.C. – The King University men's basketball team took to the road on Friday for a key contest with Chowan University. The Tornado held the lead for the majority of the second half, but the Hawks made a late run to take the contest 98-85.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
- Connor Jordan made a pair of layups around a Darron Howard triple, giving King a 7-0 lead in the opening two minutes.
- The Tornado held their lead there until Chowan connected on back-to-back three-point baskets to pull within one, but JaMarquis Johnson came up with a basket for the Tornado.
- Chowan evened the score at 28 midway through the period, and the teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half.
- With the score tied, Tyler Murray made a layup with seven seconds remaining to give King a 50-48 lead at the half.
Second Half
- A Jordan triple followed by a Johnson steal and layup quickly gave King a 57-50 lead in the opening two minutes of the second half.
- King later went on a 9-0 run as a Jacob Curry triple gave the Tornado their largest lead of the game at 71-59 with 12 minutes remaining.
- The Tornado again led by 12 when the Hawks went on a 12-0 run, evening the score at 73 with 10 minutes remaining.
- Jordan gave King a 78-75 lead with a jump shot in the paint, but Chowan scored five straight points to regain the advantage.
- A 6-1 Chowan run gave the Hawks a 90-81 lead with two minutes remaining before Howard came up with a steal and layup.
- Howard followed with another layup, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks closed out the 98-85 win with free throws in the final minute.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Howard poured in 22 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor and 6-for-6 shooting from the free throw line.
- Jordan added 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and six steals.
- Brandon Lamberth chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
- Jonathan McFall led Chowan with 22 point and 14 rebounds.
- Xavier Young added 20 points, going 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
- Jaylen Dilliard scored 18 points and Jaedon Willis chipped in with 17 points.
- The Hawks went 38-for-41 at the free throw line in the contest.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 22 points for Howard marks a career-high, topping his previous best of 13.
