BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University Men's basketball team dropped their home opener Saturday afternoon to Southern Wesleyan University 93-70. King had three players score in double digits, including a career-high 10 points from
Shan Jenkins.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
- Southern Wesleyan came out of the gate on fire, opening up a 15-4 lead in the first four minutes of play.
- Desmond Davis hit a long three with 13:47 left for the Tornado, making it a 12-point lead for the Warriors.
- King started to find their groove midway through the half, as MJ Foust took a pass from J'Son Brooks and hit the layup.
- Mays followed by hitting a jumper off an offensive rebound courtesy of Isaiah Curry to bring the Tornado to a 28-13 score.
- The Tornado would score the final seven points of the half, with Jordan hitting three free throws during the final two minutes.
- Jenkins also had a pair of free throws before Jordan topped things off with a short jumper to make it 45-28 Southern Wesleyan heading into the locker room.
Second Half
- King opened the half on an 8-2 run, as Mays hit a pair of threes in the first three minutes to get to within 11 points.
- Curry hit a layup with 13:56 left, sparking King to score six unanswered points over the next minute, with Mays and Brandon Lamberth contributing buckets.
- The Warriors however would pull away, opening up a 27-point lead at multiple times during the second half that the Tornado couldn't recover from. The Tornado had a spark at the end, with Blake Atwood drilling a three, which was followed by Curry and Jordan hitting buckets.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jenkins' 10 points is a new career high, while he tied his career high in rebounds with three.
- The 13 points that Jordan had set a new season-high, topping the 12 he scored on Nov. 23 against North Greenville.
- As a team, the Tornado had 13 steals, which is tied for second-most on the season.
FOR THE FOES
- Julian Cameron was lights-out for the Warriors, shooting 11-for-13 from the field and 8-for-10 from the three-point arc, giving him a season-high 30 points.
- A total of five Warriors scored in double figures, including Tranard Ferrell, who had 10 points and pulled 11 rebounds.
- Hunter Davis dished six assists to go along with eight rebounds and eight points,
UP NEXT
- The Tornado are back inside the Student Center on Wednesday afternoon, when they host Belmont Abbey for a 2:30 p.m. start. The game will be broadcast on BTES Power 7, HD 207.
- Southern Wesleyan will take on Erskine College Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. before returning home to close out the calendar year with a pair of Conference Carolinas matchups.
