Early goals lift King over SWU

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's soccer team earned their first win in nearly a month with a 2-0 triumph over Southern Wesleyan University. The Tornado scored twice in the opening 10 minutes to take the Conference Carolinas contest by that score.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Erin Foster came up with a save 36 seconds in and the Tornado quickly countered.
  • Mackenzie Winters took a shot that was saved by the Warrior goalkeeper.
  • The ball ended up on Kendall Morrison's foot, and she placed her shot into the back of the net to give King the lead 59 seconds in.
  • Nine minutes later, Hannah Hix played a ball over the defense to Winters who ripped a shot from the left side of the box into the upper left 90, giving King the 2-0 lead.
  • The Warriors tried to counter, outshooting the Tornado 8-6 in the opening 45 minutes, but only two shots in the final 35 minutes was on frame.
  • Both attempts were turned away by Foster, giving King a 2-0 lead at the break.
  • Southern Wesleyan kept the pressure on in the second half, outshooting King 11-2 in the half.
  • Five of those Southern Wesleyan shots were on target, but Foster was up to the task each time, earning her second shutout of the season.
  • Hix had a chance to add a goal in the 59h minute and Winters had another chance in the 85th minute, but both were saved as King took the contest 2-0.
