Tornado take care of business against Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Tornado took care of business Wednesday evening, scoring two first half goals en route to a 3-1 win over Erskine. The win snaps what had been a three-match losing streak for King.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King University 3, Erskine College 1
LOCATION: Huggins Field; Due West, S.C.
RECORDS: King 4-8, 3-6 Conference Carolinas; Erskine 0-11, 0-9 Conference Carolinas

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Tornado were swarming the Erskine net early, with things really heating up in the 13th minute when Isabella Carr took a shot that was blocked by a defender, but the ball bounced directly to Veronica Roach, who took a shot that was saved, but Carr found herself with the ball again and took another shot, this time beating the keeper to give the Tornado a 1-0 lead.
  • Neither team was able to record another shot until 32nd minute when Roach took another shot, but this one made it to the back of the net to put King up 2-0.
  • The lone shot on goal for Erskine in the half came in the 36th minute, but Erin Foster made the save to preserve the 2-0 lead.
  • Coming out of halftime, Erskine had a scoring chance in the 55th minute when they got a shot off, but again Foster made a save. The Flying Fleet had another shot one minute later but it sailed over the top of the goal.
  • King added a third goal in the 58th minute off a free kick that was taken by Megan Brody. She sent it to Presley Bacon who converted to give King a 3-0 lead.
  • The Flying Fleet spoiled a potential shutout for Foster in the 78th minute, but a stiff King defense prevented them from getting any closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Bacon's goal is just the second of her career, and first since the Tusculum game in early September.
