Tornado drop nonconference match at LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball traveled to take on Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday night. The Railsplitters got off to a hot start, and the Tornado couldn't recover as the Lincoln Memorial took the match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set

  • The Railsplitters opened up an 11-3 lead before the Tornado called for timeout.
  • The King deficit grew to 13-3 before the Tornado got on the board.
  • King tried to make a run down the stretch as Joshua Kim, Chandler Christy and Sean Kohlhase all recorded kills, but it wasn't enough as Lincoln Memorial took the set 25-15.

Second Set

  • King jumped ahead 4-2 in the second set following a block from Jon Wheaton and Kim.
  • The Railsplitters came back and evened the score at 11 before the teams started to trade points.
  • A 4-0 Railsplitter run gave Lincoln Memorial a 20-17 lead and forced a King timeout.
  • Out of the break, King evened the score with a pair of Kohlhase kills and block from Wheaton and Kim.
  • The Tornado held off one set point, but the Railsplitters scored the final two points to take the set 26-24.

Third Set

  • The third set was tight early and the Tornado looked to gain separation with a 5-0 run started by a Suetonius Harris kill.
  • Harris and Dalton Johnson then teamed up for a block that put King ahead 16-13.
  • Lincoln Memorial answered with a 7-4 run to take a 20-19 lead.
  • The teams then traded points until Lincoln Memorial scored consecutive points to take the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Kohlhase led King with 11 kills to go along with four digs.
  • Christy handed out 23 assists and added nine digs.
  • Kim posted seven kills and four blocks.

FOR THE FOES

  • Logan Kerley and Evan Cory each posted 14 kills. Kerley added seven digs and Cory accounted for eight digs.
  • Jordan Walley registered nine digs and eight kills.
  • AJ Risavy handed out 40 assists.

UP NEXT

  • King returns home to take on Erskine College on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
  • Lincoln Memorial travels to take on Coker College on Friday.
