Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team went on the road for the first time this season to take on regional rival Carson-Newman University. The Eagles got off to a hot start and didn't slow down, defeating King 111-82.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- Carson-Newman shot better than 70 percent in the opening period as they opened up a 40-14 advantage.
- Trinity Lee gave King a 5-3 lead with a triple, but the Eagles responded with 13 straight points.
- Carson-Newman later scored 12 consecutive points and closed the period on an 11-0 run.
Second Period
- King tried to start a comeback in the second quarter as Kori West made a pair of free throws and Ali Golden made a layup.
- However, the Eagles had an answer for the Tornado all night, stretching their lead to as many as 32 before King chipped away.
- Lee and Arielle Hollow made layups in the final minute, making the score 57-32 in favor of Carson-Newman at halftime.
Third Period
- The Tornado deficit again grew to 32 in the third period, but the Tornado closed the quarter with the final two baskets.
- Ryleigh Fritz and Golden made a pair of layups, cutting the King deficit to 75-52 going to the final period.
Fourth Period
- The Carson-Newman offense heated up again, shooting better than 60 percent in the final quarter.
- The teams went back-and-forth in the fourth period as Jade Campbell knocked down a triple in the final minute, but the Eagles took the contest 111-82.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lee led King with 20 points and Golden followed with 11.
- Fritz added nine points while Jada Owens, Holloway, and Kiki Samsel all chipped in with eight points.
- Owens and West snared seven rebounds each and Amaya Lee handed out five assists.
FOR THE FOES
- Kayla Marosites led Carson-Newman with 27 points, 22 rebounds and nine assists.
- Braelyn Wykle followed with 20 points as the Eagles had five scorers in double figures.
