Box Score 2 MARS HILL, N.C. – The King University traveled to Mars Hill University for a nonconference doubleheader on Monday and came away with a split. The Lions used solid pitching performance to take game one while the King offense erupted to take the nightcap 13-5.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS
- J.P. Castaneda led the way offensively, going 4-for-7 on the day, including 4-for-5 in game two with four runs a batted in.
- Austin Dayton drove in five runs, going 2-for-3 in game two.
- In game two, Cam Haymans registered three hits and scored a pair of runs.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening contest was tight, but the Lions broke through in the second inning when Devin Mangum ripped a two-out double. He later scored on an infield single, putting the Lions on top.
- Mars Hill added another run in the third inning, starting the frame with back-to-back singles. King then turned a double play, but a run scored, stretching the Lion lead to 2-0 after three innings.
- Christian Stampler started the Mars Hill fourth with a double and later scored on a hit by pitch. The Lions added another on a sacrifice fly, taking a 4-0 advantage.
- The Tornado couldn't get the offense going, only getting four bases runners on the day, two hits and two walks at the Lions took the game 4-0

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Mars Hill grabbed the lead again in game two when Matt Honeycutt laced a two-run home run to left center in the bottom of the first inning.
- Castaneda chipped into the Lions' lead with a home run in the third inning, and the Tornado took the lead in the fourth frame.
- Dylan Sligh evened the score with a sacrifice fly, scoring Preston Douglas. Heath Loyd worked a bases loaded walk to score one and Dayton made it a 5-2 Tornado lead with a two-run single.
- The Lions evened the score with three unearned runs in the fifth inning, the final two on a Harrison Keslar home run.
- However, the Tornado offense responded in the sixth inning, erupting for five runs. Loyd worked another bases loaded walk before Dayton drove in one with a sacrifice fly.
- Castaneda laced a two-run double to left center and Douglas made it a 10-5 Tornado lead with a single up the middle.
- The Tornado tacked on three runs in the seventh inning, two on a Dayton single and another on a Castaneda infield single.
- Mitch Stophel made that standup, tossing a perfect bottom of the seventh with three strikeouts, giving King the 13-5 victory.

- Daniel Vitello led the way for Mars Hill with three hits on the day, going 2-for-3 in game one.
- Devin Mangum went 2-for-2 and scored a pair of runs in the opening game.
- Honeycutt and Keslar both drove in a pair in the nightcap and Hunter Merrill had a pair of hits in game two.

- King returns home to take on Erskine College in a Conference Carolinas series this weekend. The series starts at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and concludes with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
