Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team got back into the win column on Friday evening in the friendly confines of the Student Center Complex. The Tornado shot very well in the first half, opening up a big lead over Converse College behind stellar shooting from Kristen Cupples. She poured in a career-high, leading the Tornado to the 82-56 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Arnelle Collins broke a 13-13 tie with a pair of free throws to start a 7-1 King run to close the first quarter.
- Cupples connected on her first triple of the game and Amy Van Deventer closed the scoring with a pair of free throws, giving King a 20-14 advantage after one.
- In all, the Tornado went on a 15-0 run starting the second quarter with eight straight points, opening up a 28-14 lead following a Brittany Stringer layup.
- King went on a 6-0 run, followed by a 5-0 run before an 8-0 run capped by triples from Cupples and Sheena Johnson gave the Tornado their largest lead of the half at 47-21.
- The Tornado took a 49-24 lead at halftime behind 52.9 percent shooting from the floor and 50.0 percent from three-point range.
- King earned their largest lead of the game in the third quarter at 60-27 following a pair of Cupples free throws.
- The Tornado held a sizeable advantage throughout the second half, taking the Conference Carolinas victory 82-56.
- Cupples posted 22 points on 6-for-8 shooting from three-point range. She also added four rebounds and two assists.
- Van Deventer posted a double-double, accounting for 16 points and 10 rebounds.
- Johnson added 16 points and five rebounds while Collins chipped in with 10 points.
FOR THE FOES
- Brianna James posted 19 points to lead Converse.
- Yashee Johnson snared a game-high 11 rebounds for the Valkyries.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Cupples surpassed her career-high of 12 with 15 first-half points and finished the game with a career-best 22 points. She also grabbed a career-high four rebounds.
- Johnson came within one of her career-high of 17 points.
- The double-double for Van Deventer was her first of the season and fourth of her career.
