Tornado play to second straight draw

DUE WEST, S.C. – For the second straight game, the King University men's soccer team played to a draw on Saturday afternoon when they took on Erskine College. Nick Boegemann scored late in the first half to get King on the board, but the Flying Fleet scored in the 41st minute to even the score at 1-1 at halftime. Neither team scored in the second half or in the overtime sessions as the match ended in a draw.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tornado struck first in the 39th minute when Boegemann found the back of the net on a header with the assist going to Ryan Murphy.
  • However, the Flying Fleet came right back and evened the score in the 40th minute when he laced his shot into the back of the net.
  • Erskine had a chance to take the lead in the 51st minute, but Kari Sveinsson turned the shot away.
  • Ben Harris tried to put the Tornado ahead in the 90th minute, but that shot was stopped as well.
  • The Flying Fleet outshot the Tornado 15-11, and had the advantage in shots on goal by a margin of 8-7.
  • Sveinsson made seven saves.

FOR THE FOES

  • Peter Savarese scored Erskine's lone goal.
  • Goalkeeper C.J. Cluck made eight saves for the Flying Fleet.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The tie marks King's second tie of the year, their first time having more than one tie in a season since 2013.
  • The Tornado have played three overtime games so far this season, marking their most since 2013 when they played three overtime contests.
  • The last time King played more than three overtime games since 2011 when they played six overtime matches.
