Serowski, Wellmann record career-highs as King falls to North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Looking to get a win in their final regular season Conference Carolinas match, the King University men's volleyball team took the court against North Greenville University. Despite career-highs from Nick Serowski and Chandler Wellmann, the Tornado dropped the match 3-1.

To start the contest, King (14-12, 10-8 CC) fell down 2-0 before a North Greenville (9-18, 3-3 CC) attack error got the Tornado on the board. The Crusaders took a three point advantage at 10-7 off a Matthew McManaway kill. King trailed by five at 19-14 forcing head coach Ryan Booher to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, Adrian Besson posted a kill, followed by a Sean Luhmann service ace bringing the score to 19-16. Nick Serowski got the Torando within one at 23-22 off a kill, assisted by Nick Drooker. The Tornado earned their first lead at 24-23 off a Crusaders set error. A Stephen Brown kill and North Greenville attack error gave King a set one win, 27-25.

North Greenville got on the scoreboard first in set two but King gained the lead at 4-2, three straight kills from Serowski, Brown and Eddie Moushikhian. North Greenville stole the lead from the Tornado with points going back and forth till the Crusaders recorded four points in a row to open their lead to 21-16. The lead grew to six at 24-19 but King came back posting three straight to cut the lead in half. The Crusaders head coach was forced to call a timeout and a Robbie McCoy kill earned North Greenville the set, 25-21.

Set three started the same way, North Greenville scoring first and quickly racing out to a 5-2 advantage. Trailing 7-4, King achieved back-to-back kills from Serowski to cut the Crusaders lead to one. McManaway registered a kill to open up the North Greenville lead to six at 13-7. The Tornado got down by seven points before King recorded four straight, forcing a Crusaders timeout. King fell in set three, 25-20, looking to stay alive in set four.

King achieved the first point in set four off a North Greenville attack error and jumped out to a 4-1 lead off more Crusaders errors. North Greenville took the lead at 7-6 but the Tornado answered with five of their own, capped off by a Serowski kill. King held a 15-13 lead before the Crusaders came back to tally three in a row, taking the lead from the Tornado. King got back up two at 18-16 but North Greenville did not back down taking the lead back at 21-20. Serowski tied the match up at 22 off a pass from Drooker but North Greenville added four straight to win the set 26-22 and the match 3-1.

The Tornado was led by Chandler Wellmann with 21 digs, a new career-high and Serowski with 19 kills, a new career-high as well. King hit at a percentage of .216 while North Greenville posted a percentage of .340.

King will be back in action on Friday, April 10 at 7:00 pm when they will play host to Milligan College.
