Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. – Looking to go three and zero in their last three matches, the King University men's volleyball team did exactly that when Lees-McRae College came to the Student Center. After a quick set one, the Bobcats pushed King in set two and took them to extra points in set three but it would not be enough as King was able to defeat Lees-McRae 3-0.
King (6-2, 5-1 CC) started the match very fast tallying the first three points of the match. The scoring would go back and forth till the Tornado took an 11-10 lead off a kill from Stephen Brown. The lead would grow to 18-12 when Nick Serowski tallied three consecutive service aces. Matthew DeLong would give the Tornado a nine point advantage at 22-13 when he registered a service ace. The King lead would grow to 24-13 of a Moushikhian kill before DeLong added another service as King won set one 25-13 ending the set on a seven to zero run.
Lees-McRae (1-7, 0-6 CC) got on the board first in set two before King gained a 6-4 advantage off of a Mason Casner kill, opening the Tornado lead to 13-10. An attack error gave King a 20-15 advantage but Lees-McRae came right back, narrowing the lead to one at 23-22. King would score the next two points off a Moushikhian kill and win set two off a Lees-McRae attack error.
In the third and final set of the evening, Brown put King on the board first and Matthew Lychock gave King a five point advantage at 7-2 off of a service ace forcing a Bobcats timeout. The lead would grow to seven when Lees-McRae posted an attack error. Serowski would add a kill giving the Tornado a 14-9 lead. Lees-McRae would tie the game up at 19 before King tallied three straight points and then took a 23-20 lead on a Lychock kill. The set would go into extra points and Moushikhian would give the Tornado the win at 30-28.
King recorded an attack percentage of .300 and held the Bobcats to a .159 percentage. The Tornado recorded 10 team blocks whereas Lees-McRae posted two. King also added nine service aces in the match. Leading the way for the Tornado was Moushikhian with 14 kills and Nick Drooker with nine digs.
The Tornado will be back in action when they travel to Quincy University on Saturday, February 14 and then McKendree University on Sunday, February 15. First serve against Quincy is scheduled for 8:00 pm and McKendree at 2:00 pm.
