King runs to the finish line at NCCAA Championship

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The King College cross country teams posted Top-5 finishes at the NCCAA National Championship Saturday hosted by Cedarville (Ohio) University. The Tornado stormed to a fourth-place team finish while the Lady Tornado ended up fifth with three personal bests.

The Tornado collected 133 points which was 44 behind third-place Indiana Wesleyan University. Malone (Ohio) University won the team title with 36 points.

The Lady Tornado scored 157 points, just 28 behind Bethel (Ind.) College. Cedarville ran to the team championship after scoring 40 points.

Carrie Nelson (Independence, Va.) cut her school record down by five seconds thanks to her time of 18 minutes and 59 seconds. Nelson crossed the finish line in eighth place on the 5,000-meter course.

Rebecca McDowell (Mechanicsville, Va.) and Danielle Beauvaus (Danville, Va.) had times of 19:42 and 19:42, respectively. The duo finished 29th and 30th.

Hannah Witt (Mountain City, Tenn.) as 44th, but she trimmed her personal best by 15 seconds after finishing at the 20:29 mark. Danielle Alfano (Chattanooga, Tenn.) finished with a time of 20:32 which was 25 seconds better than her previous season best and six seconds from a career best.

Naseem Haje (Haggerstown, Md.) paced the Tornado with a 15th-place finish. He ran the 8,000 meters in 26:50. Ryan Pierce (Seymour, Tenn.) and Daniel Hamilton (Franklin, N.C.) ran 20th and 22nd, respectively. Pierce's time was 26:59 while Hamilton was 10 seconds behind him.

Justin Humphreys (Bristol, Tenn.) was 37th thanks to his time of 27:48 while Andrew Dibb (Morristown, Tenn.) rounded out the team scoring in 39th. Dibb crossed the finish line in 27:56.

This championship ended the season for King's cross country teams.
