BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College has announced Ryan Booher will be the Tornado men's volleyball coach after serving as interim for part of the 2010 season, athletic director Susie Toomey formally announced Tuesday.

Booher was named interim coach in March and went onto win the next 11 matches including four in Conference Carolinas play and a win over NCAA Division I foe New Jersey Institute of Technology in his first outing. He helped take King from 2-5 to a 13-7 record to end the season. The 11 straight wins was a program record, and the Tornado finished tied for third in conference play. Two King players earned nods as All-Conference Carolina players.

"Booher is well known in the Tri-Cities volleyball community for both his skills as a player and for his decade long commitment to the development of young talent through various club programs," Toomey said. "We believe Booher's passion for volleyball and for coaching will definitely help him lead our men's volleyball team to new heights."

For the last 13 years Booher helped co-create and help run the North East Tennessee Volleyball Club. He also worked at the Bristol Family YMCA with various director roles for seven years.

"I am excited to take over this young men's volleyball program here at King," Booher said. "I look forward to taking the men's volleyball program to new heights."

He has played volleyball on various levels for 20 years and served as an official for five years on the college level with eight seasons as a high school official.
