LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - King College punched a ticket to the 2010 NCCAA Division I Baseball World Series thanks to a 3-1 victory over Covenant (Ga.) College in the Mid-East Region Championship game Saturday.
King, the region's top seed, improved to 28-14 on the season as the Tornado won three straight games to win the tournament. The 2010 NCCAA Division I Baseball World Series will begin Wednesday in Mason, Ohio. The 10-team bracket will be announced Monday.
All three of King's runs came in the third inning. A John Jordan (Bristol, Tenn.) infield single allowed Ryan Kennedy (Elizabethton, Tenn.) to come home after he led the inning off with a double. Justin Reising (Jonesborough, Tenn.) followed with a two-run home run, his third in the last two games.
Tee Blevins (Elizabethton, Tenn.) made his first start of 2010 and pitched six innings and allowed one run on six hits. He struck out half a dozen and walked two. Blevins ran his record to 5-0 this season.
Danny Williamson (Middleburg, Fla.) came in from the bullpen for the first time in 2010 as he closed out the game in the seventh as Covenant hit him for a pair of hits as he picked up a save.
The Tornado pitching staff and defense was able to leave eight Covenant runners on base during the contest.
King had seven hits as seven different players reached base.
Covenant, the region's No. 2 seed, got a 3-for-4 effort from Harrison Fisher. The Scots, with a 21-21 record, took the early lead with a RBI double with two outs by Cody Baxter in the second inning.
