BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College had four players named to the 2010 All NCCAA Division I Mid-East Region team with Danny Williamson, Justin Reising, Ryan Kennedy and Zach Winkle earning the honor.
Williamson, a senior pitcher from Middleburg, Fla., went 5-5 on the mound with a 3.39 ERA. In 69 innings he struck out 56 which led King. Opposing batters hit .252 against him as he tossed one complete game. At the plate he led the team and was fourth in the Mid-East with eight home runs and 44 RBIs at the plate. He was second in the region with 1.29 RBI per game average. In 36 games as a designated hitter, Williamson owned a .331 batting average with a slugging percentage at .696 which also ranked sixth in the region. He also had 11 doubles which were the most by a King hitter in 2010. On the bases, he swiped four bases. He capitalized with runners on third and less than two outs as he had 14 RBIs in 19 opportunities. Williamson had multiple RBIs in 13 games including five in a 4-for-5 effort against Virginia Intermont College.
Reising, a senior outfielder from Jonesborough, Tenn., was a perfect 17-for-17 stealing bases in 2010 and had the fourth most in the region. He owned a .389 batting average and scored 31 runs with 27 RBIs. Reising ranked second on the squad with six home runs. His .704 slugging percentagem which ranked fourth in the Mid-East, was helped with 10 doubles and three triples. He had six assists from the outfield.
Kennedy played 29 games at second base with six more in the outfielder. The Elizabethton, Tenn., native stole 11 bases and scored 29 times. He had a pair of home runs in his senior season with nine doubles. Kennedy also drove in 17 RBIs.
Winkle, a sophomore pitcher from Knoxville, Tenn., went 4-4 during the regular season with an ERA at 4.40. In 10 starts he completed three games. Winkle also pitched in two relief appearances which included a save. In 61 1/3 innings Winkle struck out 38 batters and opponents had a batting average of .292 against him.
King, with a 28-14 record, won the Mid-East Region Tournament Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Covenant (Ga.) College. The Tornado advance to the 2010 NCCAA Division I World Series that starts Wednesday.
