UPLAND, Ind. - King College finished third in the NCCAA Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship that concluded Saturday. The Tornado had a sixth-place effort at the event hosted by Taylor University. In all, King had 10 All-American performances in the day with numerous school records.
King totaled 91 points in the women's standings which was 13 more than Greenville (Ill.) College. Bethel (Ind.) College beat the field with 191.5 points while Malone (Ohio) University was second with 153. In the men's results, King was just outside the Top-5 as the Tornado scored 64.5 points and Greenville had 66.5. Malone won the men's championship with 170.5 over Bethel by eight points.
Amanda Davis (Purlear, N.C.) won the 400-meter dash with a lap time of 55.60. She used a run of 24.96 to finish second in the 200 dash.
Lanneickia Brewton (Inman, S.C.) ran to All-American status in the 100 dash with a 12.56 second run in the finals which was third. She also had an All-American leap in the long jump after finishing third. Her best jump cleared 17 feet and 1 1/4 inches.
Brittany Simmons (Knoxville, Tenn.) used a school-record time of one minute and 4.12 seconds to finish second in the 400 hurdles. She was a second faster than her qualifying time from Friday.
Brewton, Davis and Simmons were a part of King's 400-relay squad that won the championship with a school record time of 48.63 seconds. Jill Hooker (Piney Flats, Tenn.) ran the other leg for the Lady Tornado.
The Lady Tornado 1,600-relay team was second after running three seconds better than the qualifying time from Friday. The quartet needed 3:58.17 to garner All-American status.
Ashtan Hibar (Masnsfield, Ohio) threw the shot put 41 feet and 2 1/2 inches to finish as the runner-up in the event and extend her program record by nearly two feet.
Richard Ibeh (George Town, Cayman Islands) was a 100 All-American after he finished third with a time of 10.84. He also had a seventh-place run in the 200. Diverne Ingraham (Matthew Town, Great Inagua) was fourth, 0.01 second behind Ibeh.
Derek Nave (Elizabethton, Tenn.) earned All-American status in the discus thanks to a toss of 136 feet and 11 inches. Earlier in the day he had a 43 feet and 1 inch toss in the shot put to finish seventh.
Danielle Alfano (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was sixth in the 1,500 after needing 4:50.90 to run the race which lowered her school record performance.
In the 5,000, Carrie Nelson (Independence, Va.) ran the event in 18:27.35 which was 11 seconds faster than her school record from last season.
Daniel Hamilton (Franklin, N.C.) also broke the school record in the 1,500 with a performance of 4:03.78.
The Tornado 1,600-relay team was fourth in the event's final event while the 400-relay team finished fifth.
Shavar Watson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a point in the long jump with an eighth-place jump of 21 feet and 11 3/4 inches.
David Smith (Johnson City, Tenn.) added a point for King as he was eighth in the 800. He finished the event at the 1:58.99 mark.
