Second place for King cycling in SECCC standings

MARS HILL, N.C. - King College wrapped up the inaugural cycling season over the weekend by finishing second in the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference championship standings.

In the team standings, newcomer King scored 407 points throughout the season for second. Mars Hill (N.C.) College collected 829 for the conference crown. Brevard (N.C.) College, Furman (S.C.) University and Cumberland (Tenn.) University finished third to fifth, respectively.

Caroline Gentry (Bristol, Tenn.) finished third in the women's 'B' division while Brad Hughes (Gray, Tenn.) secured fourth in the men's 'C' class.

Gentry finished second in the road race for a second straight weekend. She also was fifth in the criterium.

Hughes had a wreck in the road race and recovered to finish 13th. He added an eight-place ride in the criterium.

Brent Baker (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the charge for King in the road race by finishing fifth and followed up with an 11th in the criterium.

David Deere (Bristol, Tenn.) and Casey Stallard (Bristol, Va.) finished 17th and 23rd, respectively, in the road race standings. Stallard finished the criterium in 13th while Deere was 21st.

Ellie Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished sixth in both the road race and criterium which helped King earn important points.

Zach Nave (Gray, Tenn.) rode to 15th in the 'A' criterium.
