Deans and Raby garner NCCAA All-American honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College had two players recently named to the 2009-10 NCCAA Division I Women's Basketball All-American team as Ashley Deans was a first-team selection with Beth Raby placed on the second team.

Deans, a junior forward from Greeneville, Tenn., led the Lady Tornado with a scoring average of 17.6 points per game. She also had the team high in rebounds at 7.6 per game. Deans owned a field-goal percentage of 49.0 with an 84.0 percentage mark from the free throw line.

She had seven double-doubles with nine games of at least 20 points including a career-best 32 points at Campbellsville (Ky.) University. Deans led King in scoring in a dozen games and 10 times had the team high in both rebounds and scoring.

Deans was the NCCAA Division I Student-Athlete of the Week twice this season.

Raby, a senior from Farragut, Tenn., averaged 13.9 points per game. She knocked down 43.1 percent of her three point attempts and was 47.6 percent overall from the field.

The guard reached double-digits 21 times in 2009-10 with seven games of at least 20 points. In 11 games she led the Lady Tornado in scoring this season.

Both Deans and Raby were on the All Mid-East Region First Team and the duo reached the 1,000-point mark this season.

King ended the season sixth at the NCCAA National Tournament after winning the NCCAA Mid-East Region Championship. The Lady Tornado's record was 18-13.
