MARTIN, Tenn. - King College scored five in the ninth inning for a 5-4 win at NCAA Division I Tennessee-Martin Saturday.
Josh Huffman (Lynchburg, Va.) put King in front with his two out, two run home run to left. He went onto finish 3-for-4.
Danny Williamson (Middleburg, Fla.) provided the first fire power in the final inning with a two-run double down the left field line with one out. Brandon Reed (Seymour, Tenn.) then had a two-out single and Williamson came home to bring King within one.
Zach Winkle (Knoxville, Tenn.) went the opening 5 1/3 innings without allowing a hit. He went onto throw 7 2/3 and allowed four runs on five hits. Tee Blevins (Elizabethton, Tenn.) threw the final 1 1/3 inning and earned the win to go to 2-0 on the season. He scattered two hits and struck out one.
Joe Craven (Franklin, Tenn.) extended his current hitting streak to five.
"It was a great team effort to win this game," said King head coach Mac McClarrinon. "We had outstanding pitching today and played great team baseball."
UT-Martin scored two runs in both the sixth and eighth innings.
The win boosted King's record to 8-7 and UT-Martin went to 8-6. The Tornado will host Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) University Monday for a 2:30 p.m. game. King won the first game at Central, S.C., 25-8 on Feb. 17 for the first win of 2010.
