Johnson jumper lifts King to overtime win

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - King College's Brooke Johnson shot King  into the fifth-place game at the 2010 NCCAA Division I Women's Basketball National tournament with her base line jumper to give the Lady Tornado a 69-68 overtime win over Grace (Ind.) College Friday.

Johnson, a freshman from Roan Mountain, Tenn., hit the 10 footer with three seconds left. She finished the game with 10 points as King had five players in double-digits.

King now will play Bluefield (Va.) College at 1 p.m. for fifth place Saturday.

Derika Mooney (Athens, Tenn.) led the Lady Tornado with 16 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Beth Raby (Farragut, Tenn.) hit four 3-pointers en route to a 14-point performance.

Jessica Tharpe (Sevierville, Tenn.) and Ashley Deans (Greeneville, Tenn.) scored 12 and 11, respectively. Tharpe had 10 straight points in the second half which helped King into the lead, 53-52.

King overcame a five point halftime deficit, 35-30, to force overtime. After forty minutes, the game was notched at 64.

Demetria Eley scored 14 points for Grace with Autumn Heflin adding 11. Hayley Cashier was credited with 10 points.
