SAVANNAH, Ga. - King College split a pair of games Tuesday as the Lady Tornado defeated Franklin (Ind.) College 10-2 after a 10-1 setback against Milligan (Tenn.) College at the Boombah SCAD Smash Hit Spring Break Tournament, hosted by the Savannah (Ga.) College of Art & Design.
Stephanie Mueller (Mt. Washington, Ky.) and Emilee Edelman (Sanford, Fla.) both were 3-for-3 in the Franklin game. Mueller had five RBIs, the most of any Lady Tornado player this season. It was also her fifth multiple RBI and fourth three-hit contest in 2010.
Shauna Haga (Blountville, Tenn.) and Aubree Hutt (Bristol, Va.) both were 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI apiece.
King started with a run in the first, three more in the second with two in the third. The scoring ended with four more Lady Tornado runs in the fourth.
Samantha Watts (Nashville, Tenn.) gave up two earned runs on seven hits in the game. She struck out six batters.
Both of Franklin's runs were in the second.
In the Milligan game, Mueller was 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the sixth inning. Mackenzie Draine (Kingsport, Tenn.) had the other Lady Tornado hit. Draine currently has a seven game hitting streak, the longest active streak on the squad.
Danielle Zimmerman (Kingsport, Tenn.) suffered the loss, giving up seven earned runs in five-plus innings.
After the two games, King moved to 8-2. The Lady Tornado will play Ohio Valley University at 2 p.m. Wednesday followed by a 4 p.m. contest with Milligan once again.
