ROME, Ga. - The King College duo of Josh Bamberger and Nick Carden paced the Tornado in Monday's opening round of the Rome News-Tribune Invitational at the Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Ga.

Bamberger (Waterloo, Canada) and Carden (Hixson, Tenn.) carded rounds of 74 which has the two tied for 20th overall.

Richard Powell (Hixson, Tenn.) had a 78 and Tyler Welch (Whitehouse, Tenn.) fired an 84.

The Tornado's opening round of 310 has the team in 15th, four shots behind Young Harris (Ga.) College. King was just 11 shots behind ninth-place, the University of West Georgia.

John A. Logan (Ill.) College posted a team score of 286, two shots in front of Shorter (Ga.) College and four better than Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) University.

Filip Timmerman, from John A. Logan, was one of 14 players to have a round under par. Timmerman has a two-shot advantage with his 66. Pierre Carlsson, from the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), and St. Thomas (Fla.) University's Estaban Aristizabal both were four under, 68.

The course played as a Par-72 at 6,688 yards. The final round will start Tuesday morning.
