Better final round for Tornado golfers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - King College lowered the final-round score at the Johnny Palmer Invitational Tuesday, but the Tornado was unable to move up in the team standings.

The Tornado finished eighth with a two-day total of 675. King fired a team score of 334, seven shots better than Monday's opening round. Anderson (S.C.) University was 17 shots in front of King. Guilford (N.C.) College held on for the team crown after shooting a 36-hole total of 615. Greensboro (N.C.) College had the team low round of the day at 304.

Josh Bamberger (Waterloo, Ontario) led King with an 82. Tyler Welch (Whitehouse, Tenn.) and Nick Carden (Hixson, Tenn.) had matching scores of 83. Brad Weaver (Orange, Va.) rounded out the team score with his 86. Three King players improved their scores in the second round.

Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University's Jason Garrett was the only player to finish under par for the event as he shot 141 in the event. He won by eight shots over Peter Latimer, from Guilford, and Pfeiffer (N.C.) University's Cameron Fields.

King will travel to the Rome News-Tribune Invitational hosted by Berry College in Rome, Ga. The first round at the Stonebridge Golf Club will be on March 8.
