CHARLOTTE, N.C. - King College started off the Johnny Palmer Invitational Monday with a team score of 341 in soggy conditions at the Old North State Park.
The low round by a Tornado was turned in by Tyler Welch (Whitehouse, Tenn.) with an 82. Richard Powell (Hixson, Tenn.) and Josh Bamberger (Waterloo, Ontario)posted an 86 and 88, respectively. Brad Weaver (Orange, Va.) followed thanks to an 88.
The 7,102-yard course saw rain during the day as only one player, Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University's Jason Garrett was under par. Garrett posted a 70, two-under-par. He has a two-shot lead over David McGregor, from Post (Conn.) University.
Guilford (N.C.) College used a team score of 310 to gain the lead. Four shots behind was Lenoir-Rhyne and host Pfeiffer (N.C.) University was third, six shots out of first.
Final-round action is scheduled to tee off Tuesday morning.
