Records fall for King Swimming at ASC Championship

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - King College broke 15 program records at the 2010 Appalachian Swimming Conference Championship over the weekend.

In the team standings, the Tornado finished seventh with 256 points with an eighth-place finish by the Lady Tornado squad with 238 points. Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) University took the men's championship and Asbury (Ky.) College won the women's title. Wheeling Jesuit scored 658 points and Asbury collected 751.

Michele Donihe (Chattanooga, Tenn.) went the distance for three records, the 1,650-yard freestyle, 500 freestyle and 400 individual medley program records. She finished third in the 1,650, fourth in the 400 individual medley and sixth in the 500 freestyle. Her time in the 1,650 was 18 minutes and 31.37 seconds. Donihe finished the 500 in 5:23.89 and 4:51.03 in the individual medley.

Emily Vaughan (Johnson City, Tenn.) needed 2:18.27 to swim the 200 backstroke and finished eighth. Her time of 1:04.13 gave her a ninth-place finish in the 100 backstroke.

Marcy Hullander (Bristol, Tenn.) lowered the 100 breaststroke record to 1:14.64. Greg Taylor (Bristol, Tenn.) finished the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.31 and finished ninth with the school-record time.

The men's 200 medley relay squad was fifth after swimming the event in program record time of 1:40.84. Both the men's and women's 400 relay squads were fifth with record breaking swims. The Tornado 400 medley relay team was sixth and put the school record at 3:44.97. The King 200 men's and women's relay records were broken and both teams finished seventh. The Lady Tornado 800 freestyle relay team was eighth thanks to a school-record swim of 8:33.28.
