GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College had eight players recently named to the NCCAA Men's Soccer Scholar Athlete team, the organization announced. Also, a player was an honorable mention All-American with two team members placed the all region squad.
Tom Winspear (Yarm, England) was an honorable mention All-American and a member of the All Mid-East region squad after he led the team with 20 goals scored this season. Of the 20 goals, six were game winners. He also provided two assists. When it came to penalty kicks, Winspear was 3-for-4.
Andy Kimball (Athens, Tenn.) was on the all region team after scoring six goals in 2009. He was credited with an assists and two game winning goals. Kimball also made the grade for the scholar-athlete team.
Erik Douglas (Asheville, N.C.), Sam Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.), Bennett Giles (Knoxville, Tenn.), Richard Masters (Kent, England), Danny McBride (Dundee, Scotland), Justin Morrell (Bristol, Tenn.) and Michael Thornton (Nashville, Tenn.) were all a part of the NCCAA Scholar-Athlete team. The eight players from King was the most any team placed on the national list.
The Tornado finished the 2009 season with a 10-8-1 record and reached the NCCAA Mid-East region semifinals.
