BRISTOL, Tenn. – In the fifth annual Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup, King University trailed Lees-McRae College following the fall season, but the Tornado came back during the winter and spring seasons to win the cup for the fifth straight season.
The King basketball teams got the Tornado going, each winning both of their contests over the Bobcats, pulling King ahead in the standings. The Lees-McRae men's indoor track and field got the Bobcats back on the board, but King matched that point with a higher finish at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships on the women's side.
The Bobcats later took points in women's tennis and women's outdoor track and field, but King won both contests in men's volleyball, softball as well as taking points in men's tennis and men's outdoor track and field.
King then sealed the 15-7 victory by having a higher percentage of student-athletes on the All-Conference Carolinas academic teams and having a higher NCAA Graduation Rate. Lees-McRae took the point for having a higher overall student-athlete GPA.
