King student-athletes connect with YWCA TechGyrls

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Over the course of the school year, some of the King University women's teams went to the Bristol YWCA to spend time with the TechGyrls and teach the girls about their particular sport. Each group would watch an ESPN Nine for IX show with the group before taking questions and working with the girls.

Along with working with the girls, each of the teams would sign autographs for the girls and take a group photo. The first team that joined the TechGyrls in the fall was the women's basketball teams as they watched the Nine for IX documentary entitled Swoopes. Following the viewing they then discussed the academic side of athletics with the girls.

A few weeks later, the acrobatics and tumbling team viewed the Nine for IX video entitled Let Them Wear Towels before explaining and demonstrating what acrobatics and tumbling is with the group. In the spring both the women's soccer and women's tennis teams spent time with the TechGyrls, watching The 99ers and Venus VS, respectively.

King hopes to continue a relationship with the TechGyrls in the future and the TechGyrls are planning to attend a Tornado women's soccer game this fall at Parks Field.
